Ramp Networks Secures $5.5 Million in Series C Financing

SANTA CLARA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–April 8, 1997–Ramp Networks, Inc., a leading provider of easy to use, fast Internet access devices, today announced that it has raised $5.5 million dollars in venture capital which will be issued as Convertible Preferred Stock. InveStar Capital, Inc. is the lead investor in this third round of funding.
InveStar Capital, based in Taiwan and Silicon Valley, has a track record of investing in the Internet, semiconductor and computer networking technology markets. The company has strong ties to the semiconductor and computer industries in Taiwan and Southeast Asia. Other investors include Charter Venture, headquartered in Palo Alto, California, which was founded in 1982 and is part of the Cha Group of Hong Kong. Charter has made extensive investments in the computer industry in Hong Kong and China.
In addition to the new investments by InveStar Capital and Charter Ventures, existing investors including Venrock Associates, Interwest Partners, Vertex Management, Inc., and Draper International have extended their initial holdings. The completion of this third round of funding brings the total investment in Ramp Networks to $17.5 million.
