Xue Zhao v Viktoria Cmilyte, Russian women’s team championship 2010. The white player is Chinese and Black is a Lithuanian, but both are among the best female players in the world so were snapped up as hired mercenaries by ambitious Russian teams. Their game was fought cautiously with mutual respect until they reached the puzzle diagram.
Cmilyte was a pawn down, though with active piece play to compensate, until Xue Zhao’s last turn Ne2-c3? proved a monumental blunder
